Michelle D. Smith
FOUNDER/OFFICE OF PRESIDENT
Navigating the complexities of incarceration can be overwhelming, yet Michelle—who was unexpectedly thrust into this reality—has dedicated her life to easing the journey for others. When God turned her pain into purpose, she founded Faith Freedom Life, a ministry devoted to healing, renewal, and restoration for those impacted by incarceration. As a mentor, facilitator, advocate, and curator of transformative experiences for women, she cultivates spaces where growth and lasting change can flourish.
Michelle is the co-author of Faith Freedom Life: 12 Steps to Inner Healing© and the author of both the facilitator and participant workbooks for its support groups. She also serves on the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction’s Family Advisory Council, where she helps amplify the voices of families affected by the criminal legal system.
With over 30 years of experience in the legal field and certification as a Paralegal by the Ohio State Bar Association, Michelle brings a rare combination of expertise, empathy, and lived experience to her work. Her passion lies in equipping individuals and families with the tools to heal, rebuild, and break the cycle of recidivism.
Beyond her professional mission, Michelle finds joy in being “Mimi” to three granddaughters, immersing herself in music, art, and travel, and dreaming of exploring cultures around the world—especially those with breathtaking beaches.
